What are the Classification of Computer and their types with example , function , uses ?
Although a clear-cut classification of computers is difficult, computers can be broadly classified on the basis of purpose, components and size.
Purposewise, computers can be classified as -
1. Analog Computers
2. Digital Computers
3. Hybrid Computers
1) ANALOG COMPUTERS :
Analog computers are computers that are measure physical quantities (e.g. pressure, temperature, length etc} and convert them to numeric values. For example, a thermometer does not perform any calculations but measures the temperature of the body by comparing the relative expansion of mercury.
USES -
Analog computers are used mainly for scientific and engineering purposes because they deal with quantities that f vary constantly. They give only approximate results.
Types Of Analog Computer :
Slide Rules
Differential Analysers
Castle Clock
Electronic Analog Computers
Mechanical Analog Computers
Pneumatic Analog Computer
Hydraulic Analog Computer
Function Of Analog Computer -
Electrical pulses flow in a regular pattern, and the output is shown constantly. For example, an automobile's side rule and speedometer both display its findings in real time. However, because this device has a smaller memory unit, it can only execute a limited number of computations. The analogue computer is an extremely helpful tool for solving differential equations. The precision of the results produced by these machines is low, but they are quicker than digital computers and can process all instructions in parallel.
Example Of Analog Computer -
1. Speedometer
2. Thermometer
3. Television
4. Electrical Integrator
5. Hydraulic Controller
2) DIGITAL COMPUTERS :
Most computers are digital devices i.e., they count the numbers (or digits) that represent numerals, letters, or other special symbols.
USES -
Permanent special-purpose digital computers can be installed in the device, for example. processors that are installed in automobiles to control fuel, banking system etc.
General purpose digital computers can be used in different applications since they can store different sets of instructions and programs.
Features Of Digital Computer
Digital computers are all-purpose devices, which means they can solve almost any issue. These machines have a huge internal memory that can store millions of characters.
Both number and non-numeric data are processed using digital computers.
It can also execute a variety of arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and logical operations, among others. To work on these sorts of computers, you must have a strong understanding of programming.
Digital computers are highly popular because they can solve a wide range of issues. They are widely utilised in all environments. For example, at home, at the workplace, at the store, on the train, in a hotel, and so on.Other applications include business, banking, education, entertainment, etc.
Example Of Analog Computer -
1. Personal Computers (Desktops and Laptops),
2. Accounting machines,
3. ATM (Automated Teller Machine),
4. Digital Weighing Machine,
5. Smartphones, and Tablets,
6. Digital clock,
7. Calculators.
3) HYBRID COMPUTERS :
The features of analog and digital machines are combine to create a hybrid computing system. e.g. analog devices measure a patient's vital signs like temperature and need functions. These are then converted to numbers and supplied to the digital components that monitor the patient's vital signs. Thus, any changes are visible right away..
Types Of Hybrid Computer
there are tree types of Hybrid computer given below -
1. Large Electronic Hybrid Computer
2. General-Purpose Hybrid Computers
3. Special-Purpose Hybrid Computers
The Hybrid Computer's Function
A hybrid computer was created to address a specific problem. As a result, different sorts of components are embedded to execute a certain activity, depending on the necessity. Hybrid computers provide an accurate output in a short amount of time. A hybrid system differs from a hybrid computer in that it is a physical machine that serves as analog-to-digital converters.
Examples of Hybrid Computer's
Measurement at the gas pump converts fuel flow into a currency rate.
Scientific laboratory
Control industrial process.
Airlines sector
Gas Pump Station
Radar systems
Scientific calculations
Weather system computation
Electrocardiogram machine
Ultrasound machine
CT scan machine
Holter Monitoring machine
Hospital – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
